With half-term almost upon us, the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership, Green Gang will be out and about having lots of outdoor fun events.

Saturday 11th February 2.00pm (Green Gang)

SAMPHIRE HOE FABULOUSLY FIERCE FEBRUARY

Come along on a walk around the Hoe and discover how we predict when, and protect from, stormy weather. To calm the emotions at the end of the event there will be a chance to make a natural card to give to your loved one on Valentines Day. Donation appreciated. PICTURE THE HOE—SAMPHIRE HOE TRAIL

Self-guided trail: Discover the wildlife and art trail around the Hoe. Collect a sheet and a crayon from the office and follow your way around the trail, find out about the Hoe and it’s wildlife and create a picture to take home. Samphire Hoe is owned by Eurotunnel and managed together with the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership. MEET: Site management office, Samphire Hoe (Post code: CT17 9FL) (pay and display car park). The Hoe is signposted off the A20 from Dover to Folkestone (TR 294 391). Dogs welcome on leads.

Monday 13th February 2.00pm

DAMBUSTERS AT WEST HYTHE (Green Gang)

Hop, skip, jump and bounce along to the dam on the Royal Military Canal at West Hythe and learn about the ways that wildlife survives the cold winter months. What better way to keep warm! Rain, ice and even snow will make the paths slippery – boots or wellies are needed for this event. Donation appreciated. Wednesday 15th February 10.00am – 1.00pm

BUILD A BIRD BOX (Green Gang) (Please book)

A very popular event which we are repeating again for you to build your own bird box from pre prepared kits. When you have made your box you can take it home and with the instructions given hang it up or put it up on a wall or a suitable location. The materials for this event have been kindly donated by Park Farm Joinery in Folkestone. Please note, pre booking for this event is essential as materials and places are limited. WOOLLY WONDERS AND BOINGY BUTTERFLIES

Have a go at making your very own felt from Kent sheep’s wool and craft your very own butterflies and lizard keyrings with Arty Crafty. Also hear about the White Cliff Landscape Partnership's exciting plans for the future and tell us what matters to you about where you live. Free event. LEADER: Anita Sedgewick (07762 627710). Saturday 18th February 2.00pm – 4.00pm

CHALK AND CHARCOAL ANIMAL ANCESTORS

Get in touch with your inner caveman and discover the animal ancestors that roamed our Kentish countryside. Using chalk from the grassland and charcoal from the woods we will create a giant picture of the past. Be prepared to get a bit dirty. Donation appreciated. MAKING SENSE OF SAMPHIRE HOE (Green Gang)

Join us for a stroll around the Hoe using our senses to discover hidden delights of the beautiful site and to discover it’s history. Donation appreciated. GUIDED WALK: WINTER FORAGE, FOLKLORE AND SURVIVAL

What could you survive on, from the wild, in winter? Our ancestors did it, but it’s not an easy task! Bring out that Stone Age person hiding in your genes! Come on a walk to stop, see and hear about the different food and herbal remedy ingredients that can be found in the wild in winter! Dress up with layers and bring a drink and a snack with you. ‘Oh arrrrr, if the tide is low and if the wind blows from the sou’west we shall attempt the perilous crossing to ‘dead mans pool’. ‘Some say you can hear the cries from long lost sailors on the wind’. ‘Davey Jones welcomes young and old alike’.
