Armed forces [1]: Crack soldiers pelted with petrol bombs and missiles by 'rioters' at Kent Army Base in Lydd [2]

Soldiers from 3rd battalion The Parachute Regiment were under attack from petrol bombs and missiles as they fought running battles with protesters as part of an exercise in 'public order training' at Lydd Army Training Base in Kent last week.


The Paras were being trained how to contain and arrest 'rioters' in exercises which were reminiscent of the violence on city streets in Britain last summer.

According to a report in the Telegraph, Defence sources have confirmed that if violence were to return to British cities, especially during the Olympic Games, the Paras would be 'ideally placed' to provide 'short-term' support to police forces around the UK.
