The meeting called, 'Transition Hythe: Next Steps' will give people the
chance to hear about the overall Transition movement, which is now a
global phenomenon, and the Hythe version of this.
Group member, Martin Whybrow, said: "It would also be an ideal occasion
for anyone interested in setting up a similar scheme elsewhere in
Shepway or beyond.
"We would love to help others to set up Transition initiatives. These
are a great way for communities to think about, and act upon, the need
for greater sustainability in the face of climate change, the end of
cheap oil and social inequality."
The Hythe meeting will give people the chance to sign up for a free
thermal imaging study in the next phase of this scheme, which identifies
heat loss from homes. There will also be the opportunity to register for
a number of skills courses, including ones on vertical gardening and
felt-making and spinning.
It will be a great opportunity to talk to the group about bug hotels, a
planned community allotment, upcoming tree and hedge planting, how the group is trying to aid local
retailers, a car share scheme, seed swapping, a local recipe book
contributed by residents, local groups and small businesses, its monthly
beach cleans and lots more.
Martin Whybrow adds: "Importantly, we will be asking for ideas and views
on new areas of activity, with a ‘white board’ area for brain-storming."
Entry is free and there will be refreshments.
