More than
1,000 jobs are going after the cross Channel ferry operator SeaFrance
was told to close by a French court (9 January)

Most of
the redundancies will hit French workers but it is understood that 127
British workers in Dover have also lost their jobs.
Office workers and check-in staff based in the Kent town are among those
affected.
SeaFrance operated three passenger ferries between Dover and Calais
until November 2011 after the court threw out private bids to rescue the
firm.
The company said any customers with existing bookings will be offered a
refund.
