The rain stayed away, the crowds came and the sun shone at the annual Hawkinge Fun Day on Saturday (10 September)

Kent County Councillor Susan Carey congratulated everyone involved in the event, which was held on the Green and the Hawkinge Community Centre.

"The organisation was excellent," she remarked.

"As well as a wide variety of stands with information, goods and games, there was a varied programme of events with everything from folk music to Nepalese dancing.

"The food on offer was excellent and Terlingham vineyard added a touch of real class with their award winning wines made here in Hawkinge," Cllr Carey said.

Let us not forget the Hawkinge Events Group

The Hawkinge Fun Day was a wonderful family event. The best ever in my opinion. It was nice of Susan Carey to acknowledge this but what about the other councillors who also enjoyed it who were not conservatives! Also let us not forget the Hawkinge Events Group who not only organised this event for the village but also worked tirelessly on the day to make it a success. The endless hours they must have put in voluntarily is unimaginable

All praise to the Hawkinge Events Group

I've re-read my words about the Hawkinge FunDay and I don't see how it could be read as saying only Conservative councillors were there. It is however the case that the MP, the County Councillor, the three District Councillors, the District Council chairman and several of the Parish Councillors are all Conservative.

The whole point of my story was to praise the organisers and let people know how enjoyable it was.

I hope others (including councillors of whatever persuasion) will also contact the Hawkinge Gazette with their comments on the FunDay.

Hawkinge Fun Day - Well done

I would just like to say, as an older resident of Hawkinge, that I enjoyed the event. It was nice to see the village supporting this event and I agree with Nancy that it was the best one. I enjoyed the pig roast a novel idea. I also enjoyed walking around and seeing people enjoying themselves.

The Events Group have obviously put in a lot of hard work to produce such a successful event that involves many of the village. They deserve a lot of credit for doing this voluntarily. This year I noticed there were more stages and acts. It was great to see the young people of the village showing off their talents.

Ms Carey I don't think anyone is saying that you implied only Conservative councilors were there, but you made a point of mentioning some of them by name, yet there were other councilors and dignitaries there who were not of the conservative persuasion who were not mentioned by name. Perhaps a general mention to all councillors would have been more appropriate as this is not a political event in my opinion. It is important that you were all there to support the event.

My thanks go to the small group of people who put this event together. Well done.
