But the 127-year-old landmark, which carries the railway mainline between Folkestone and Dover, was merely undergoing an inspection by engineers.
The 19
arch Foord viaduct, designed by Sir William Cubitt, was completed in
1844 and the construction of the railway was able to continue on its planned route.
