A woman in her mid-thirties and a child were rescued unharmed by fire crews after their vehicle ended up in a water filled ditch.

The accident at 6.20pm on Thursday (22 December) occurred on Giggers Green Road between Aldington and Dymchurch.

An emergency fire crew from Lydd and a specialist water rescue unit from Folkestone rushed to the scene where the pair had managed to scramble onto the roof of the car before rescuers arrived.

Fire fighters waded out to the car to carry the victims, who were said  not to be hurt, to safety.

Fire crews, police and paramedics were at the scene for more than an hour.
