Visitors to the Cheriton Winter Grotto this December will hear two very familiar voices among those reading Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Folkestone-based art group, Strange Cargo is re-opening their workshop base in the old factory in Geraldine Road in Cheriton.

As part of their long-term plans for the workshop, the group is working with the residents of Cheriton in their first project in a three year programme of creative projects in Cheriton, and during the run-up to Christmas will be transforming the Factory into a magical, Winter Grotto.

The Cheriton Winter Grotto will be open its doors from 1st December, and will feature a Cheriton winter scene of locally built miniature houses and a broadcast of A Christmas Carol, read by 100 different people with connections to Cheriton.

Among those reading this classic Christmas ghost story is Miss Cheriton in 1988, and current Carnival Association Chairman, Karol Steele.

Karol's son Ben, who is also reading, was Cheriton and Morehall's carnival mascot in 2003 and Mr Cheriton in 2005.
