A cyclist has died after falling from his bike in Old Wives Lees, near Canterbury, on Thursday morning (24 November 2011).

The rider, who was in his 60s and lived locally, was cycling down Long Hill at about 9.05am when the accident happened.

PC Mick Sayer of the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At this stage it appears that for some unknown reason the man has lost control and fallen from his bike.

“A couple in a black Toyota Avensis, who were travelling up the hill, called an ambulance and the cyclist was taken to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford with a serious head injury.”

The cyclist died from his injuries in hospital at 6.00pm on Thursday.

PC Sayer said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the Old Wives Lees area yesterday morning and saw the man out cycling to contact us so we can piece together exactly what happened.”
