Dear Editor,
I refer to my article 'Hawkinge becoming a crime hotspot' sent to you
on 6 November was further highlighted by last week's Folkestone
Herald newspaper with the front page headlines - 'Villagers plea to end
reign of yobs terror'. |

The reply from the police, that there was not enough crime for a
dispersal order, must have pleased the yobs no end.
So it all happened again this weekend with the window of Serendipity
being smashed and fights outside the shops on Saturday night.
Why does it need a dispersal order?
Where are the police at night?
Why can't the community police patrol at night, at the moment their only
presence seems to be to watch the school children cross the road.
It is frightening and intimidating to walk to the shops at night, trying
to get through the gangs that collect there.
I am sure it would not take too much police effort to wait and watch for
a while to see who is causing all these problems
Yours

Whilst agreeing, somewhat with CC1 posting. it would be good to know in a way, just how many officers are available at any one shift across Shepway to Police it and indeed what their shift patterns are: 8hour shifts or 12 hour shifts?
What is the make up of Folkestone Police Station "manpower" wise?
How many Officers are available per shift per area?
If we are now a town and are likely to "move over" to Dover's jurisdiction, how will this reflect here?
