A film about Marilyn Monroe in which scenes were shot in Gibraltar Lane, Hawkinge and at Saltwood Castle in October 2011 is to be released next month.

'My Week with Marilyn' was shot at Pinewood Studios and on location in and around London and the South East.

There are hopes that the Silver Screen Cinema could show the movie from the release date of 18 November.

In a letter to the Hawkinge Gazette, film enthusiast Ray Duff wrote: "Let's hope the Silver Screen cinema in Folkestone shows this from that date. It may also be of interest to the local Classic Film Club."

Directed by Simon Curtis and produced by David Parfitt, the film is based on Colin Clark's diaries telling of the week he spent with Marilyn.

Colin Clark  was the son of the art historian Lord Clark of Saltwood, formerly Sir Kenneth Clark, and the younger brother of the Conservative politician and military historian Alan Clark.

In the early summer of 1956, 23-year-old  Clark, just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of 'The Prince and the Showgirl', the film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe, who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller.

When Arthur Miller left England, the coast was clear for Colin to introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life; an idyllic week in which he escorted a Marilyn who was desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the pressures of work.

Michelle Williams as Marilyn

Nearly 40 years on, his diary account 'The Prince, the Showgirl and Me' was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as 'My Week with Marilyn'- this is the story of that week.

In the movie Michelle Williams plays the iconic Marilyn Monroe alongside a top British cast including Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson and Julia Ormond.

The movie is one of several that have been helped by the Kent Film Office run by Kent County Council which helps arrange locations that can promote the county to the wider world.
