A Facebook
page for local people to show their support for a campaign to stop
Shepway District Council from introducing so called 'draconian' parking measures
in Folkestone, Hythe and New Romney has been set up. |

Over
a hundred concerned residents squeezed into the community centre at St
Saviour's Church in Blackbull Road in Folkestone on Monday evening
(24 October) to
discuss controversial proposals to introduce on-street charging for
parking.
Parking campaigner Toby Philpott who chaired the meeting is reported saying: "We're going to fight, we're not going to go away and we're going
to win to stop this strategy.
"If it goes through we will be left with a polo mint town with nothing
in the middle."
Shepway District Councillor Philip Martin, who supports the protest, was the only
council representative to attend on the night.

This is disgusting. I work 21 hours a week for the government and I am a single mum.
If parking charges are introduced it would have a huge financial impact on me and I'm not sure that I could afford it.
I have to use my car as my child care starts at 8am for both children (obviously cant be in two places at the same time) so I, physically can not get into work on time unless i use my car.
If parking charges are introduced I would, more than likely, have to leave my job as it would no longer be financially viable.
Why would Shepway Council want to give people anymore reason to not come to the town? Folkestone is enough of a ghost town as it is!
If I can not afford the parking charges (which, even if I buy a permit it's still first come first served so I'm not guaranteed a space) then I can not afford my home.
This, for me, is a huge problem and something that I worry about constantly!!!!!!!!!!
