Dear Editor
I write in total agreement with Councillor Carey's remarks re the
Hawkinge Fun Day |

|
Unfortunately
the sun in the sky didn't shine but this was more than made up for by
the smiles and enjoyment of all those that attended.
The hard work of the Events Group Chaired by Chris Johnson came up
trumps once again and proved that the decision of Hawkinge Parish
Council to give a grant of £400 towards the running cost of the event
and to underwrite any loss of revenue up to £2,000 if required was
indeed the correct decision, for to see the village come together as it
did proved to be a great success.
The Parish Council tent was very busy. On our display were the plans for
the proposed supermarket near the Community Centre and the proposed
plans for the shops, small units and retirement village on the
Employment Land by Lidl's.
We were able to show the plans and achievements to date on the changing
facilities at the Hawkinge Parish Sports ground off transfer Road and
how we managed to raise the funds.
How we funded and supplied the Hawkinge Allotments so that the people of
Hawkinge can pursue their interest in growing their fruit, flowers and
vegetables.
Also on display was the nature area of Frank and Betty's field that is
there to be enjoyed by the young and not so young.
And last but not least the fact that we are building our own Parish
Council Offices at the Community Centre so that the people of Hawkinge
once again have a place of contact.
The Hawkinge Parish Council has over the last year achieved Quality
Status, this is something that we are very proud of and it is something
that we hope we can keep.
Regards
Cllr Tony Hutt |

I have often enjoyed this day with the kids running around and maybe a sneaky beer, and catch up friends.
But can someone consider next time when firing the muskets next to the bouncy castles where the children are playing, especially with no annoucements.
It takes the edge off the day when you have to then carry around a crying 3 year old who won't uncover his ears.
