A young man stands, suitcase in hand, waiting to buy a ticket to leave
his boring life in a small town in America to start a new life in New
York, where he dreams of becoming a writer. And so begins ‘Small Town To
Big Apple’, the new one man play written and performed by Greg Chapman,
which will be touring for the first time in the summer of 2010!
Chapman plays Jack Matthews, a young man in the 1920s, who dreams of
being a writer and goes to New York in search of a story to tell. When
the job he was hoping to get at a newspaper falls through, he finds
himself working first in a bar, and then later backstage in one of the
many theatres in the city. Through these jobs Jack finds himself
involved with people from the theatre, and the musicians of Tin Pan
Alley.
The play, at times funny, at times deeply moving, tells the story of a
young man from a small town who suddenly finds himself in a big city. It
tells of his life, love, dreams and of various characters he meets along
the way.
Small Town To Big Apple is on at The Tom Thumb Theatre 30th/31st July at
7.30pm and a matinee performance has been added for 2.00pm on 31 July
