Harbour Board boss Bob Goldfield has said money from a sale of the Port
of Dover could be used to regenerate the town. |

Mr Goldfield was speaking at a public in Dover Town
Hall on Thursday (4 March) explaining the proposed plans for privatising
the port and developing a second ferry terminal at the Western Docks.
The board outlined its proposals to seek private investment and is
pressing ahead despite the opposition from many local people.
Board chairman Roger Mountford explained that what the local community
would receive depended on the outcome to further talks, including those
with Dover District Council.
Opponents of the sale have said they fear jobs will be lost, but port
managers said the sell-off was vital to the regeneration of the area.
The management has applied to the government to sell the port and is now
awaiting approval. |
