Where
better to get the secret for perfect Christmas dinner roast potatoes
than from the potato grower herself. |

This is one of the many treats in store for shoppers coming to Elham’s
Christmas Farmers’ Market Christmas on Sunday 13 December.
Kim Gower of Blandred Farm in Acrise has become a firm favourite at the
market, not only for her excellent range of potatoes all grown on her
farm, but for her encyclopaedic knowledge of how to cook the different
varieties to achieve the best results.
Amanda Darbon, Elham Farmer’s Market co-manager, said: “Shoppers have
been telling us how they have rediscovered the joy of eating potatoes,
that have a superb flavour quite unlike anything available in
supermarkets. All Kim’s potatoes are grown on her farm just over 2 miles
from the market, so are about as local as you can get.”
But this is just one of the many attractions at what will be a bumper
market. In addition to the regular local producers selling anything from
game to chutneys, seasonal additions will be everlasting Christmas
wreaths, Christmas trees, wool products and decorative wooden items made
by Elham Valley Vineyard, and orders taken for turkeys. Also not to be
missed will be the Elham gardeners’ stall with their range of fruit and
vegetables, all grown in the village.
To entertain shoppers during the morning, a newly formed local choir of
“non singers” will be giving their first public performance, singing
Christmas carols. They hope that shoppers who can sing will help them
along the way!
Staff at the Rose and Crown pub in the High Street, Elham, where the
market is held twice a month, will be serving mulled wine and a range of
warming hot drinks. |
