The 3rd Hawkinge Cubs joined forces with Shepway District Council to tackle litter along the beach in Folkestone. There were about twenty children aged between eight and 12.

“They all did a fantastic job,” said Alison Wood, Environmental Education
Officer of Shepway District Council. “They worked really hard for a good hour
and they were so enthusiastic. The results were impressive and the beach looked
spic and span. On behalf of the council I want to give them a huge vote of
thanks.
“But of course it is shame that it had to be done, and if people did not drop
litter in the first place we would not have the problem. Our Environmental
Community team can enforce on the spot, fixed penalty fines of £80 for anyone
who drops litter or cigarette butts and that is something we are enforcing.”
