Searching for photos of international motorcyclist, Robin Skipper

Posted by editor on Nov 22, 2008 - 03:00 AM

Dear Editor,

I am trying to track down some pictures of my stepdad.

He had a scrap book but has sadly lost it, please could you see if you can find anyone who could put me in contact with someone that may be able to help.

My stepfather's name is Robin Skipper.

I think that he was racing motorcycles from the 1970s onwards.

He rode sidecar and solo, and  represented Great Britain.

Any information and photos would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Aaron Clarke

Are you the Yvonne Parry I once knew?

Posted by editor on Jul 13, 2008 - 08:52 AM

Dear Editor,

I have been trying to locate an old teaching colleague, Yvonne Parry.

We taught together at St Francis Xavier in Canberra in 1983.

I lost contact with her several years ago and am wondering if she is the same person mentioned on your website.

Perhaps she is interested in contacting me.

Thanks.

Hawkinge search for Walter Mant

Posted by editor on Sep 15, 2007 - 11:43 PM

Dear Editor,

I am seeking information about my great grandfather.

Walter G B Mant lived in West End Cottage somewhere in Hawkinge.

It was a small holding and I know he was there during the Second World war. He is buried in the cemetery with Jane his wife and my mother Frances who as a girl used to visit him on his \'farm\'.

Is there anyone who might be able to identify where the house used to be? Anyone who might remember them?

Penny Hacking

Searching for the Slater family

Posted by editor on May 08, 2007 - 09:22 AM

Dear Editor,

Hello there, I live in Australia although originally lived in the UK, and I'm trying to track down friends and family from the Cheriton area.

My husband Robert Slater from Cheriton recently died.

As in most marriages one listens, keep photos...and letters, none from UK unfortunately, but some of those very necessary details are missing and proving stumbling blocks to making sense of something to leave for daughter and grandson as they have no other relatives in Australia.

I am very interested in the Fred Slater Band...as my late husband's father was a Frederick Slater married to Nellie (nee Atkins) of Cheriton....and wonder if this could be a grand-son!

All of my husband's brothers were in the services, Charlie served in the Army, John was a Navy diver and my late husband Robert was in the RAF during the Second World War. There was a best friend Arthur Nokes who married a local girl but they went back to Midlands later. I do have baptismal from All Souls and service records of course.

If you have useful suggestions or contacts they would be very very much appreciated. I'm just hoping for something to crop up.

Many thanks

O. Rose-Slater

Editor's note:- If you have any information, please email us and we will forward replies to Mrs Slater
