Monday 15th September Arthus Bailey a long standing and experienced member of the club, (he actually said he joined the club in 1957!)  demonstrated how, with modern technology, to produce digital prints using Photoshop and a few other bits of apparatus.   This was very informative and an interesting evening, albeit still confusing for some members who are not quite au fe with digital!  We all know that this is the way forward now, though some members still like to use the darkroom techniques.  Arthur brought along some very old photographs of his parents and showed us how we can manipulate the image creating a most pleasing photograph. It has certainly given the members the incentive to have a go!

Next week (22nd  September) will be a lecture on ‘Creative Macro Photography’ by John Watterson, where members can bring their cameras and have a go at Macro work.  The 29th September will bring Richard Filmer to our club to present his lecture ‘Traditional Kentish Building Materials’  and the 1st October will be our monthly practical evening where members can practice with the clubs studio equipment.

Meeting 8 September 2003

Posted by webmaster on Sep 09, 2003 - 07:42 AM
8 September was the start of our new season, which is always a good evening seeing our friends, some of whom we may not have seen since our summer recess began in May.

Our first meeting of 2003/2004 season was informal to welcome new members.

An AV (audio visual) of a slide show created by our members, entitled ‘Hands Across the Sea 4’ which is a compilation of several members work which is then put together with music. ‘The Ancient Cinque Ports’ was also shown, and a lot of research and work went into this creating an excellent show. These were both sent to Australia for our exchange last year and have been travelling all over Australia and New Zealand to many camera clubs there!.

Folkestone Camera Club ...16 May 2003

Posted by webmaster on May 16, 2003 - 06:31 AM
15th May 2003

Our last meeting of the season was a light-hearted evening with a ‘Match-a-Slide’ competition between the ladies and gentlemen members. We had two slide projectors and screens projecting a slide from each team which had to ‘match’ as near as possible by content. Some matched very well, but some subjects were difficult. It was a very close competition with the ladies leading for much of the evening, but the men caught up and it ended in a tie.

On Friday 9th May, we held our Annual Dinner and Awards Night which concludes our 2002\2003 photographic season.

It was a very successful evening with our guest speaker, Mayor of Folkestone Councillor David Dickinson. giving us a very interesting speech. It was so entertaining, in fact, that you could hear a pin drop and I know we all could have listened to him for a lot longer. After his speech, we asked him to present the awards to the winners of the various trophies, which were:-

ANNUAL PRINT EXHIBITION PREMIER AWARD - THE
PRESIDENTS CUP - Robert Brisley

LEN CHARLES TROPHY - Melanie Chalk

ST. AUBYN CUP - Brian Collins

PETER HERITAGE CUP - Keith Radford

REG WALKER CUP - Dave Turner

CHALLENGE CUP - Dave Turner

MONTHLY COMPETITIONS:- Overall winners

PRINTS;-
NOVICE - Jean Turner
INTERMEDIATE - Denis Bridges
ADVANCED - David Hughes
PORTRAITS;-

INTERMEDIATE - Robert Greene
ADVANCED - Dave Turner & Keith Radford (Joint Winners)

SLIDES;-

NOVICE - Tony Reeves

MEDIUM FORMAT - Bryan Mewse

Our next venture will be our annual outing, which is to be to Hampton Court in June; we all look forward to an enjoyable day.

The Annual General Meeting will be held on 21st July.

Our new season will commence in September at the United Reform Community Hall, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone at 7.45pm. New members are always welcome, if interested please phone Mrs Jenny Barraclough (Secretary) 01303 245399, or e mail

Folkestone Camera Club ...25 March 2003

Posted by webmaster on Mar 25, 2003 - 03:12 PM

On 24th March Mr Glyn Bareham, a member of Invicta Camera Club and Kent Digital Group, and a regular visitor to our club, gave us a talk on Digital Photography.

He showed us photographs taken by other members of the Digital Group and explaining how they were done, whether they were straight prints or manipulated by the author on the computer. It was so interesting you could hear a pin drop in the audience!!

Many members asked questions trying to further their knowledge of this new technology. It was a very interesting evening and certainly fired the imagination and enthusiasm of many.

The Kent County Photographic Association ‘Ross Cup’ was held at Sevenoaks Camera Club on Sunday 23rd March. This is a print competition open to all affiliated clubs in Kent. 28 clubs entered and FOLKESTONE CAME 26TH ! We are all obviously disappointed wit the result, but we were up against very good competition. We must try harder next year.

Next week, 31st March we shall have a lecture entitled ‘Duplicating Slides’, and Wednesday 2nd April will be our monthly Practical Evening where our members can practice with the clubs studio lighting equipment.

We also have a Battle for the Eurotunnel Trophy with Gateway, Canterbury and Deal Camera Clubs on the same evening, at Deal. These are always a very good evening and it is good to see other peoples work. A pity the dates have coincided, as our members will be torn which to go to!

The following Monday 7th April, will be our competitions for the Peter Heritage Cup (set subject ‘Time’) and the Reg Walker Trophy (the best slide of the season).

Our meetings are held at the United Reform Community Hall, Castle Hill Avenue, and Folkestone on Mondays at 7.45pm. New members are always welcome, if interested please phone Mrs Jenny Barraclough (Secretary) 01303 245399 or
