Folkestone Camera Club meeting 8 December 2003

<FONT face=Arial color=black size=4>FOLKESTONE CAMERA CLUB

On Monday  8th December, we had the pleasure of seeing another Audio Visual Slide Presentation from our Australian counterparts in Brisbane with whom we have an ‘exchange’ each year, and is always a very good show.

In addition to this Arthur Bailey, a long-standing member of our club showed a selection of his own Audio Visual shows.  We all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening seeing many different aspects of photography combined with good commentary or music.  Our work has now been sent to Brisbane for their members to see and  we look forward to next years exchange.

During the evening our Chairman announced that one of our members Mr Bob Turrell, had been awarded the ‘Unsung Sports Hero 2003’  BBC South East Trophy from the BBC, for all his volunteer work over many years at the Shorncliffe Day Centre.  Bob, and his wife Betty, were invited to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards Night which was televised live, on Sunday 11th December.  A car was sent to collect them and took them to the Kensington Hilton Hotel where they stayed.  During Sunday, Bob said he thoroughly enjoyed himself, meeting many Sports Heroes and shaking many of their hands – a weekend to remember.  Well done,  Bob, congratulations from all our members.

Next week it will be our Christmas Social evening where we shall all enjoy a very informal evening with our friends.

We will resume our usual meetings on 5th January with a presentation from the Clay Cross and Bywater Photographic Society.  This will be a superb evening and hopefully giving ‘food for thought’ to our members as it is always good to see other clubs work.

FOLKESTONE CAMERA CLUB

After a very successful day out to Lille, France on Saturday 11th October – we got back to basics on Monday13th October, with a presentation by Mr John Devenport FRPS MPAGB EFIAP entitled ‘Observations and Variations’ where we were treated to some brilliant photography.

We all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and gave us some ideas of what we could all achieve with a little practice and knowledge.

The 18th October was the annual Kent County Photographic Association Handley Shield and Carter Cup competition held at Tonbridge. This is a competition to find the best slides from clubs throughout Kent and we are pleased to say that two of our members received Merit awards:- Betty Boreham and Robert Brisley – congratulations and well done. Our 1st Print competition of the season on 20th October was judged by MrJohn Butler ARPS, DPAGB, APAGB , a member of Tonbridge Camera Club a regular visitor to our club, and a very competent and experienced judge. Points out of 20 of each section were as follows:-

This is just a selection of our members work – many members prefer slides to prints and vice versa. (We at present have approximately 60 members)

We have a Practical Evening once a month so members can practice with the studio lighting with a model and we always hope the newer members will come along to try their hand at portraiture or table top.
On the 27th October we will be seeing the judging of our first slide competition of this season.

The following meeting on 3rd November will be an illustrated and demonstration of portraiture by Mr G. Lancaster. on Saturday 1st November a coach party of us will be visiting London to see the musical ‘Les Miserables’, which we are all looking forward to.

Visit our web site at www.folkestonecameraclub.co.uk.Meetings are held at the United Reformed Church Community Hall, Castle Hill Avenue. Folkestone, every Monday commencing at 7.45pm
