Dear Editor,

I grew up on a farm. It was the best education a child could wish for.

I am not, as stated by Chris Beal, off topic. In fact, in the act of misinterpretation of my comments Chris has demonstrated exactly the point I was trying to make.

Dear Editor,

Re:- Hopefully a voice of reason in the sheep saga
It is interesting to see the parochial mindedness and bold assumptions being made by some contributors. Incomers, vegetarians, small minded, nimbys and like comments hardly inform the debate when made in such a dismissive and disparaging way.

I do hope the head loses her job over this, I cannot understand how KCC did not step in, or is this why she cowardly had the lamb killed before it was due to be , just so no one could stop her.

Yes, I find this business with the sheep, disturbing and inappropriate for a primary school 'projest' but I am a vegan and I find the whole business of eating meat wrong.

Re:-Anger over Shepway primary school slaughtering sheep

I am saddened by the school's decision to have one of their pets slaughtered but it reflects the ambivalent attitude that this nation of so called animal lovers has towards the creatures that it purports to protect.

Pupils form the Infant and Junior department at Dover college have fully embraced National Book Day by centring a whole week around the theme of Superheroes.

Charlotte Firmin with young pupils from Dover College

The week, organised by teacher, Rachel Morley, included many fun packed ideas for the children to try.

The children began the week by bringing in their favourite book and taking part in a book speed dating activity to encourage each other to read from a wider variety of Authors and styles.

On Tuesday, artist and book illustrator Charlotte Firmin joined the infant and junior department , to work with year groups creating illustrated stories centred around super heroes and super powers.

This was the highlight of the week for many children, who were truly inspired by the illustrators talents to make their stories unfold before their very eyes!

Buzzing with ideas the children then set to work designing their own super heroes and creating individual stories. The children also took part in a book token design competition as well as designing a book sleeve for their super hero stories.

A fun, insightful week was had by all.

An 11-year-old boy who lives near Sevenoaks and passed the eleven plus exam faces a 90-mile round trip to school each day after he was given a place at a grammar school in Folkestone.

Alex Chatfield, from Kemsing, near Sevenoaks, has been told his "nearest appropriate school" is The Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone.

The boys mother, Sandra said it would take her son just over two hours to get to school and another two hours to return.

"He would be able to do it if he walks to a station, takes one train, changes trains, gets a bus the other end, and has to still walk from the bus to the school," Mrs Chatfield said.

Kent County Council said the problem arose because grammar schools in west Kent were heavily subscribed.
