In response to the news that the proposal to close Hawkinge Household Recycling Centre has been endorsed, the town council is prepared to take on Kent County Council if closure plans go ahead.

KCC endorse Hawkinge waste site closure but refer it back to Cabinet member before final decision is made

Following a 10 week public consultation in revamping the Household Waste service, in which nearly 3,500 residents took part, Kent County Council Cabinet endorsed the recommendations for change on Monday (19 March) but made no final decision, referring it back to the Cabinet Member.

What was described as 'frank and honest' talks saw Hawkinge Mayor Cllr David Callahan and KCC Cllr Bryan Sweetland, the Cabinet Member for Environment Highways and Waste laying it in the line over the plans to close the waste facility in the town.
