Taken from the Battlefields of France, The Unknown Warrior now rests in peace in a tomb in Westminster Abbey, a national symbol of remembrance for those who fell in service during the horrific battles of the First World War ... the war to end all wars.

Flying the Flag for Armed Forces Day in Dover District

To mark the lead up to Armed Forces Day, the Chairman of Dover District Council and the Town Mayor of Deal are inviting community representatives to a flag raising ceremony at the entrance to Deal Pier starting at 10.15am on Monday (20 June).

New memorial in Folkestone honours Normandy veterans

A new permanent memorial to Normandy veterans who fought and died in the Battle of Normandy - the famous D-Day landings - in 1944 has been installed at the Garden of Remembrance in Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

150 Gurkhas are first victims of Government Defence cuts

The Ministry of Defence announced yesterday (4 April) that around 150 Gurkhas are to be among the first casualties of the Army's job cuts but it is not known how many who are based in Folkestone and Maidstone will be affected.

Re: Folkestone based Gurkha soldier awarded UK second highest medal for bravery

Sgt Dip Prasad Pun, his comrades and their families, are so much a part of Shepway these days they are rapidly becoming the Pride of Shepway.
