Kent Police is appealing for witnesses after reports a woman was sexually assaulted in Canterbury in the early hours of Wednesday, 4 January 2012.

The alleged assault took place shortly after 3am in the car park of a supermarket in Kingsmead Road.

The woman, who is in her early 20s and from the Canterbury area, was walking home when she was approached by a man. The victim's phone was also stolen.

Detective Inspector Mark Weller said: 'The man is described as white, with spiky blond hair and was at least 5ft 8in tall. We believe he may have been driving a small black car.

"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the victim or her attacker, or who recognises his description, to contact us."
