Council blunder puts Folkestone 20 miles further away from Hastings

People driving from Folkestone to Hastings could find themselves facing an apparent 20 mile longer journey home.

Highways bosses in East Sussex have been caught out by a road sign blunder which states fellow south coast resort Folkestone is 20 miles further away than shown on road maps and sat navs.

The actual distance between Folkestone and Hastings checked with Google Maps is in fact around 41 miles and not 61 as stated on the road sign at Queensway in Hastings, which also shows London as being just 41 miles away.

East Sussex County Council has admitted it got the distances wrong for Folkestone and London, and admitted their gaffe put them the wrong way round on the offending sign.

It is due to be corrected this week.

On Shepway roads, the correct distances from Folkestone to Hastings are shown.
