A Deal woman who claimed she had been abducted and raped, but later admitted she had lied, has been given a suspended sentence.

20-year-old Rebecca Howard told police that on 6 February two men put her in a car and drove her to Walmer where one of them raped her.

Channel Magistrates sentenced her to 120 days in prison, suspended for 24 months, and 200 hours' unpaid work. She was also given a 12 month supervision order and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.

She had pleaded guilty to wasting police time when she appeared at Channel Magistrates Court in Folkestone on Thursday (18 August).
