Holidaymakers hit as Eurotunnel suspends bookings ahead of weekend strike

A planned strike has forced Eurotunnel to suspend ticket reservations for Saturday and Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend, the company said yesterday (24 August).

The unions have called a rolling strike and are demanding 14 months of pay each year - up from 13 at present - according to local newspaper La Voix du Nord.

The industrial action, by French workers, will affect cross-Channel travel between Calais and the Folkestone terminal at one of the busiest travel periods of the year on Saturday and Sunday, but Unions have said Eurostar trains will not be hit and will run as normal.

Four unions lodged a strike notice over pay on Friday.

Eurotunnel said: "At 6:00 pm on Friday August 19 we chose to suspend reservations."
