'Retired' champion Channel swimmer back in Folkestone hoping to make it fifteen

American champion Channel Swimmer and Folkestone summer resident Peter Jurzynski is back in the town hoping to add yet another success to the fourteen crossings he has already posted.

Peter who "retired from Channel Swimming" last year is keeping his options open for possibly another go in 2011.

"The operative word is 'possible'" said Peter.

"Earlier this spring I had my Channel Swimming medical check and all is positive.

"If I can adjust to the cool temperatures and I feel I have a reasonable chance of success I may make another attempt in late summer."

"He said he's adopting a less stressful training regime, acclimatising to the sea temperature gradually and extending sessions by minutes as opposed to half hour increases.

"To be very honest, a Channel attempt in 2011 is just a possibility yet my options are open," he said.

Peter, 60, who lives in Connecticut, holds the American record for the most crossings.

He is enjoying his twenty-ninth visit to the town which he has made his second home.

He admitted the swim is not the reason he is in Folkestone: "I love the town and the area and I am trying to make this summer enjoyable without firm training deadlines of the past, but most importantly I am appreciating this part of Kent."
