A story has been published this week to throw cold water on the idea of a new ferry to Boulogne from Folkestone harbour.
 

It seems residents of our cross-channel partner are keen to re-instate a ferry service as they are suffering from competition from the tunnel.

Local Remembrance Line Association (RLA) campaigners have long since held the dream of a new foot passenger ferry, but so far it has been just so much hot air and muddled thinking.

The Folkestone Harbour Company (FHC) have rightly thrown down the challenge to come up with a viable plan very soon .. or new plans to redevelop the harbour and seafront will go ahead with no such access to cross channel traffic.

I wonder if there is actually a need for any new ferry, especially just a foot passenger service, when anyone can pop along to Dover or drive on a train to France any time day or night.

Dover ferry operators are concentrating on new bigger super ferries, with a new one due to set sail this summer.

I wonder, has the tide turned?
