Hundreds of shoppers braved the cold to enjoy three hours of evening events organised by Hythe Chamber of Commerce and Tourism (HCCT) on Friday (9 December).

Decorated with Christmas trees and illuminations, the High Street was thronged with shoppers making the most of the pedestrian-only occasion.

Shops and businesses offered seasonal refreshments, Father Christmas did the rounds and entertainment was provided by singers, groups and the band of the Salvation Army.

HCCT chairman Joanna Ames said: “Hythe’s late night Christmas shopping event again lived up to its reputation as a showcase for value-for-money shopping and friendly service. Shops and stores were busy and everyone seemed to be having fun.

"Great credit is due to the businesses who responded to our invitation to help to get the town into festive season mood, with especial thanks to the organising committee - Kate Arnold, of Chocolate Deli; Penny Whitehead, of the Hythe Imperial, and Kevin Howell, One-One-Two Wines”.

The HCCT trophy for the best Christmas shop window display was awarded to Owlets with Flowercraft winning a highly commended certificate, and Wells Restaurant and The Flower Shop receiving commendations. Judges were Joanna Ames and Mayor Cllr David Owen.
