The White Cliffs Countryside Partnership have lots of Christmassy events... Ho Ho Samphire Hoe!

Saturday 3rd December 2.00pm

EACH END – MARSHBOROUGH & WOODNESBOROUGH

Join our friendly group on a relaxing autumn walk to Woodnesborough. Children over 7 welcome. Bring water to drink. Suggested donation of £1 (to WCCP) appreciated. LEADER: Diane of Collyer’s Companions (01304 241806). MEET: Each End lay-by – Ash by-pass (TR 305 555). DISTANCE: 4 miles (2 hours). GRADE: 3. Dogs welcome on leads.

Sunday 4th December 2.00pm

SAMPHIRE HOE TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED


Join in a walk around the Hoe to hear some of the weird and wonderful things (both natural and human) that have been observed on the Hoe since it opened in 1997. Suggested donation of £2 appreciated. LEADER: Paul Holt, White Cliffs Countryside Partnership (01304 225649). MEET: Site management office, Samphire Hoe. The Hoe is sign-posted off the A20 from Dover to Folkestone, postcode: CT17 9FL. DISTANCE: 1 mile (1.5 hours). GRADE: 2. Dogs welcome on leads.

COLLYER’S COMPANIONS XMAS LUNCH (Please book)

Join us at the King’s Arms in Sandwich for a lunch or snack. Please book on one of the Collyer’s Companions walks. LEADER: Bernadette of Collyer’s Companions (01304 241806). MEET: Kings Arms, Strand Street, Sandwich.

MAKE NATURAL CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS


Bring a bag to collect leaves, twigs and berries to make beautiful table and house decorations for yourself or as presents. Bring string, a container for the table decorations and colourful ribbons. SAMPHIRE HOE HO HO


Join in a walk around the Hoe to discover the winter wildlife as we approach the shortest day. Bring along a joke to share with us. Suggested donation of £2 appreciated. LEADER: Paul Holt, White Cliffs Countryside Partnership (01304 225649). MEET: Site management office, Samphire Hoe. The Hoe is sign-posted off the A20 from Dover to Folkestone, postcode: CT17 9FL. CARING FOR THE COUNTRYSIDE CHRISTMAS TASK AT HILLS RESERVOIR, FOLKESTONE


Everyone is invited to join the volunteers in an Xmas task to cut small scrub from areas of the grassland which are rich in wildlife. LEADER: Phil Green, White Cliffs Countryside Partnership (01304 241806 or 07880 706993). MEET: 10.15am at Hills Reservoir, top of Castle Hill, Crete Road West, Folkestone (TR 213 382).

TREE WALK AROUND FOLKESTONE DOWNS


An easy afternoon walk around Folkestone Downs to learn more about the winter identification of trees in winter (and a chance to make a book of bark rubbings) and hear some stories about trees. SAMPHIRE HOE BOXING DAY STROLL


Join in a Boxing Day Walk around the Hoe to discover how this new piece of land was created and the wildlife that has colonised it. Weather permitting the tea kiosk will be open serving hot drinks. Wednesday 28th December 2.00pm

TREE TALES AT LYMINGE FOREST


An easy walk for all the family around West Wood at Lyminge Forest to discover more about trees and their uses with stories from folklore. LEADER: Kirk Alexander, White Cliffs Countryside Partnership (01303 274806 or 07885 599182). MEET: Car Park, West Wood, Lyminge Forest (TR 141 439). Driving along Stone Street (B2068) towards Canterbury, turn right at Six Mile Garage and you will find the car park on your right hand side about 800 metres along the country lane. DISTANCE: 2.5 miles (2 hours). GRADE: 2

CARING FOR THE COUNTRYSIDE: ST MARTINS BATTERY, WESTERN HEIGHTS, DOVER


Last task of 2011! Shake off those Christmas blues and join in with a general clear up and bonfire on this stunning site overlooking Dover Harbour and the Channel. Please wear old clothes, sturdy boots and bring a packed lunch if staying all day. Festive refreshments (more mince pies) provided!
