Proposed Shepway parking charge is a 'huge worry' for part-time single mum

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Re: Folkestone set to become a 'polo mint' town if parking plans get go ahead

This is disgusting.

I work 21 hours a week for the government and I am a single mum.

If parking charges are introduced it would have a huge financial impact on me and I'm not sure that I could afford it.

I have to use my car as my child care starts at 8am for both children and obviously can't be in two places at the same time, so I physically can not get into work on time unless I use my car.

If parking charges are introduced I would, more than likely, have to leave my job as it would no longer be financially viable.

Why would Shepway Council want to give people anymore reason to not come to the town? Folkestone is enough of a ghost town as it is.

If I can not afford the parking charges, which, even if I buy a permit it's still first come first served so I'm not guaranteed a space, then I cannot afford my home.

This, for me, is a huge problem and something that I worry about constantly.

Yours

Dawn ******

Who benefits from proposed Shepway parking charge?

The original reason against the parking charges was that customers would be lost to the local traders.

Now it seems that it is not for customers, but for traders who wish to park for long periods.

No benefit for you or I

the only benefit I can see will be the new 'Owner' of the rights to chase and inflict a target driven approach to the issuing of PCN (parking fines). This is a classic council ploy to save money, by hitting the residents and visitors alike with an outsource to a target driven organisation to save money.

Keep it as it is Folkstone doesn't need this type of plague.

Reduce car culture dependancy

I agree with the parking charges.

I think we need to reduce our dependancy on the car and begin thinking about the environment.

Car culture ruins the local enviroment, and quality of life for people who don't drive a car.
