I believe that the Hawkinge Parish Council have removed (sacked) Joan Brisley from being a councillor for the village which she has given so much of her time, at least 45 years. And to be told in a phone call from the Hawkinge Parish Council chairman, Cllr Callahan, what a nasty way to treat her. I think this was very insensitive.

Joan hasn't had the best of health over the last few years but has done so much to help all the clubs in the village.

John Punnett ought to know better than to make the unfounded allegation that Hawkinge Parish Council removed or sacked Joan Brisley and should withdraw it. As a former Councillor himself he would know that any council in the land does not have that power.

It is a fact that Joan has been unable to discharge her duties as a PC for some time due to ill health. As I understand it Joan has been removed under the rules that govern PCs, these rules are there for a reason and are not at the whim of PC members or the Chairman.

Joan has served her community well and is now ready for a well deserved rest.

Thank you Joan for your stewardship of Hawkinge in the past and though I know that it's growth has not been to your liking, I as a relevantly new resident, thank you again for your stewardship and wish you a peaceful retirement.
