An American Channel swimmer has admitted boarding a P&O ferry to reach France.

But the swimmer, Peter Jurzynski only took the ship to spend 5 days training at Bleriot-Plage preparing for his latest attempt at swimming the 21 miles to France.

Peter who spends most summers in Folkestone training for his annual attempt at swimming the Channel said: "The tides on the French side seem stronger yet the water is slightly warmer.

"I achieved my goal of a 6 hour training swim off of Bleriot-Plage on Sunday (4July) and the previous Sunday I completed a 4 hour training swim off Folkestone

Peter with Mayor Guy Allemand of Sangatte Bleriot-Plage

"One of the key issues for me ever since I began channel swimming so many years ago is not to over train and since arriving with my first brief swim in the channel on 10 June, I have skipped only one day of swimming in the sea in a month.

"My goal now is challenging 'to keep acclimated yet, not to over train' and at this point I need some rest and light swims.".
