Lydd Airport plans get go ahead from Shepway Councillors

Shepway Councillors last night voted 2 to 1 in favour of the expansion of Lydd Airport.

This was despite Shepway District Council planning officers recommending refusal on grounds of noise and environmental concerns.

After a marathon seven-hour meeting and years of wrangling, Lydd Airport's plans to build a new terminal and extend its runway by 300m were approved.

The new terminal would be able to handle up to half a million passengers a year.

Airport managers have said the expansion plans will create jobs and boost tourism.

Editor's note... What do you think of the decision... will it destroy the Marsh environment.... or will it help ease the employment situation now that a new Dungeness Power Station looks unlikely to be built?
