Empty life-raft off Dover prompts Channel search

Coastal rescue services have been searching the sea off the coast of Dover this evening (23 March) after an empty life-raft and fishing debris were seen floating in the sea.

The Ramsgate Lifeboat, an RAF helicopter and Dover RNLI Lifeboat were all scrambled to search the area.

Dover Coastguard Watch Manager Frank ONeill said: "The search conditions are not ideal, with mist and fog and the light quickly fading. Despite this, we will continue to search until it gets dark in order to eliminate the possibility that the equipment found has come from a vessel in distress."
