LD Lines and Transeuropa Ferries are joining forces to create extra passenger and freight services to Ostend in Belgium.

The two companies will start the passenger and freight operation between Ramsgate and Ostend on Saturday (27 March).

The Transeuropa Ferries ship Oleander will be joining the Ostend Spirit ferry on the route.

There will be four return sailings a day on the four-hour journey.

LD's vessel, Norman Spirit, was transferred from the Dover to Boulogne route and renamed Ostend Spirit.

The ship can carry up to 1,850 passengers, 250 cars and 75 lorries.

The Oleander has capacity for 1,326 passengers, 127 cars and up to 42 freight vehicles.
