Anger over vehicles blocking footpaths in Hawkinge

Angry residents are complaining about vehicles parking on footpaths and blocking access for pedestrians and wheelchair users.

Hawkinge Warden Tanya Clark is reported in this month's Hawkinge Community Newsletter saying that over the past month she has received numerous complaints about vehicles blocking footpaths.

GazetteOnline has also been told it is often difficult to use some footpaths because of parked cars which block pedestrian access for parents with pushchairs or elderly or disabled people in wheelchairs who can be forced into the road to negotiate their way around vehicles.

Warden, Tanya is asking everyone to be considerate and aware that vehicles do not obstruct any footpath.

Editor's note: Please let us know what you think....

Do you find vehicles  partly or wholly parked on footpaths?

If you push a buggy or you are a wheelchair user, does it cause you problems?

If you are a driver who parks a car on the footpath,  please tell us why it is necessary..... is the road too narrow? Does it block the highway for emergency vehicles if it is parked on the road?

Dear Editor ,Tanya is so right about the complaints of vehicles being parked on footpaths .Yes it is a danger for Mums with prams and pushchair and it is a danger for those people who are disabled, but it is also a danger for anybody who has to walk into the road to continue their journey all because the inconsiderate driver who abandons their car for reasons best known to themselves

It is illegal to park on the footpath and incosiderate to park near roundabouts and junctions i.e Uphill and Harvest way/ Webster Way. When is something going to be done about it?
