A convicted paedophile who was jailed for eight years in 2002 for raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Dover has been found hanging in his prison cell, the Prison Service reported today (2 March).

A Prison Service spokesman said: "HMP Wandsworth prisoner Barry Camwell was found hanging in his cell by staff at 9.30am on Monday (March 1).

"Staff attempted resuscitation and an ambulance was called but Mr Camwell was pronounced dead at 9.45am.

"As with all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman."
