Taxi drivers boost Shepway knowledge

News

Shepway taxi drivers have been updating their knowledge so that they can be even better ambassadors for the area.

The cabbies attended a special training day organised by Visit Kent at the Hythe Imperial Hotel.

The day of workshops included talks by Thomas Marsh, a Beacon Co-ordinator for the Kent Sport, Leisure and Olympics team; Jeremy Whittaker, Regeneration and Economic Development Manager at Shepway Council; Chris Kirkham, Discover Folkestone Manager; and Amanda Oates, Arts Development Officer at Shepway Council.

Taxi drivers discover more about Shepway

The event was organised by Kerstin Beeching, training manager at Visit Kent.

Miss Beeching said: "Taxi drivers are often the first people visitors to Shepway meet.

"They are regularly asked questions about what is happening in the area and what are the best places to visit. They are our frontline ambassadors.

"Taxi drivers are busy people and so we decided to hold a day-long training event with as much useful information as possible. We were determined to include not only what visitors can see and do in Shepway today but also all the plans to regenerate the area and ensure our legacy from the 2012 London Games."
