Tit Bits

Village gossip including 'Shepway should do the job they are paid to do'  pumping up the volume at Roller Disco and bloody noses for council officers....

Shepway should do the job they are paid to do

Litter in and around the village is suddenly becoming a real eyesore in some areas and I think we should expect Shepway Council to, at the very least, send a working party to clear the worst of the unsightly mess which is blighting the village.

Residents can, and I know many do do their bit. There is a planned community litter pick next month but the situation needs to be tackled now.

Well done that man with a dog and a plastic sack who I saw clearing what he could from the verge on Spitfire Way.

Perhaps we should all take a leaf out of your book and take on the responsibility ourselves as many of us will die before they see Shepway Council carry out the job they are paid to do.

Good news Bad news Youth Club

It seems the Hawkinge Village Hall Committee thought the Youth Club had disbanded after it moved out of their hall. But the good news is,  the club has moved to the Community Centre where they can now hold sporting activities for the youngsters, I'm told.

Lady Gaga pumping up the volume

The Community Centre has now installed a new Sound System with vastly increased volume and improved quality, but without, it is claimed, any increase in decibels outside the building.

Just as well with events like the highly profitable and successful Ladies Night and the regular Roller Disco attracting huge numbers of people, the Centre needs to continue boosting the earnings from the building for the benefit of all who want to use the facility.

Become a Community Centre member

The Community Centre will be holding its AGM towards the end of May and all residents are being encouraged to become members of the Centre at £5 a year.

All members can attend the AGM and ask questions of the Trustee/Board.

Trustee/Board places will become available and Members are asked to put forward nominations for election. Ring 01303 894857

Battle of the Photocopiers

I understand the new Photocopying facility at the Community Centre is facing stiff competition from the village Post Office.

A metal sign outside the Post Office has just appeared offering copies at 5p, cutting the 10p Centre price in half.

Bloody nose for Shepway Officers

The battle to get approval of plans for the Lydd Airport expansion has been won but the war is far from over.

Shepway Officers were left licking their wounds after councillors disregarded the Officers' recommendation to throw out the plans, and voted for the expansion to go ahead.

But already I understand, Natural England has written to the Government Office of the South East requesting that Shepway District Council's resolution to grant planning permission for the Airport at Lydd be 'called in' for decision by the Secretary of State.

More money the country can ill afford  will no doubt be wasted.
