The writing is no longer on the wall
Credit
where credit is due.
I admit to usually being less than confident that Shepway Council could
actually organise a piss up in a brewery but it looks like I could be
eating my words.
The graffiti that I complained about in December which was spreading
across Hawkinge like a rash has gone thanks to the district
council... Well done Shepway I say - now we're on a roll what about clearing up
all the litter. Probably best to send a couple of lorries - it won't
be a quick job. Ta!
Strippers - love 'em or hate 'em - personal opinions must not
get in the way of a successful business
According to some sources it's said a number of people in the
village are unhappy about the 'adult' entertainment in the form of
Large Marge and couple of male strippers.
I know the website often receives letters complaining about things happening in the village which
upset some of you, but since the original story run in November about the
Ladies Night at the Community Centre, it has apparently not heard a peep.
I don't want to labour the point but it seems odd that some criticism which is less than liberal, and
more conservative is actually coming from some directors of the
Centre.
If there is demand for certain events at the Centre and they are legal, surely it should be able to hold them.
The directors must not be able to pick and choose which events, or
which clubs for that matter, they want in the Community Centre. Some may remember the early days of the original trustees, when the Franze Dance
Academy was booted out of the Centre after a lively Christmas
Concert Party. That turned out to be one of the least smart moves the
Trustees made and its reputation was badly dented.
Personal opinions have no place in business and at long last the
Centre is being run as a commercial enterprise.
Lets not return to those bad old days.
Better late than never
Loved the item in the Hawkinge Community Newsletter about 'Bright
Future for Hawkinge Village Hall'.
It raised a smile when I saw it described as an 'iconic building' ,
perhaps not the description many would share with the Management
Committee Chairman Tony de Ste Croix but at least he has a vision
for the future of the building.
It's good news that the Management Committee is finally getting to
work improving the 'neglected edifice'. Just a shame that they had
failed to do anything sooner.
Shut the gate - job done?
The Churchill School has been trying to wean pupil's parents from
driving into the school for as long as I can remember.
We all know that children and cars are a lethal cocktail, yet the
message has failed to get through to many who take part in this
morning and afternoon motoring mayhem.
The school has tried to establish a walking bus and encouraged
children to cycle to classes. It has introduced parking restrictions
with penalties and arranged with the Lidl store for parents to use
their car park.
All these valiant attempts have made no noticeable difference to the
volume of vehicles driving into the school at the beginning and end
of the day.
Has anyone tried closing the school's vehicle entrance gates at
8.30am and re-open them at 8.50am. The same could happen in the
afternoon.
The staff will all be in school and the rush doesn't start until
8.35am.
Job done? Or am I missing something - the simple fellow that I am. |
