Actress Joanna Lumley was named Oldie of the Year by the monthly magazine 'Oldie' magazine for campaigning for the rights of retired Nepalese Gurkha soldiers wanting to settle in Britain.

63-year-old Joanna succeeded in winning the rights of former Gurkhas who retired before 1997 with more than four years' service, to be able to apply to live in Britain.

Broadcaster and TV personality Terry Wogan, 71, presented the prize to Ms Lumley an awards ceremony at Simpson's-in-the-Strand in London

Joanna's name will now be added to the roll of previous Oldie of the Year Award winners which include David Attenborough (2005), Ranulph Fiennes (2004), Eric Sykes (2002), John Mortimer (2001) and Spike Milligan (1994).
