Work begins on Hawkinge Care Home

Work has now started building the long awaited Care Home on the site between the Lidl store and Terlingham Village

Shepway councillor David Godfrey will be meeting with Graham Care Homes boss, Eddie Graham to discuss services for local people.

The home will provide around 70 to 80 bedrooms with day rooms and treatment areas together with a number of one-bedroom extra care suites.

Dental Practice

The Pennypot Dental Surgery in Canterbury Road, Hawkinge was officially opened on Saturday (16 January) although it was not open to patients until Wednesday (20 January).

Naishad and Bella Patel opened another of their modern surgeries in Walmer on the same day. They also operate the Pennypot Dental Practice at Martello Drive in Hythe.

Despite poor weather at the end of 2009, and the moving of a bus stop outside the Hawkinge premises, both of the projects were completed and opened on time.

Allotments - 'all systems go'

District Councillor David Godfrey has said it is now 'all systems go' for the allotment site in Hawkinge.

We understand the leases are about to be signed and it is expected cultivation of the land will be able to begin by Spring 2010.

Following a request for funding by Eileen Blythe, from the Allotment Society, Cllr Susan Carey has arranged a KCC grant of £1,500 to the Hawkinge Allotment Society towards the cost of a compost toilet.

Cycle and footpath completed

The missing stretch of the cycle/ footpath adjacent to the Hawkinge Village Hall car park, which was planned to link up with Canterbury Road, has finally been completed.

Bicycle stands and fencing to the car park have also been erected.

£4500 grant for high quality photocopying facilities at Hawkinge Community Centre

County and District Councillor Susan Carey has arranged a KCC grant for providing and installing a high quality professional photocopier.

The £4,500 grant came from the KCC small capital grant fund which Cllr Carey can allocate. She explained the idea of a copier was that of David Godfrey who identified a need for somewhere in Hawkinge where people and small businesses could go for high quality photocopying.

Susan believes both the Community Centre and the Parish Council would make use of it, together with the whole community and it would be another way of bringing people into the Community Centre which could help generate much needed extra income and provide a service to the whole community.

Cllr Carey who is also a Director of the Community Centre said, 'The Community Centre offers more to the village than rooms for hire. This photocopier is a new service and complements the computers and broadband access already on offer. I hope both businesses, voluntary organisations and individuals will find it useful.'
