Two men from the country which popularised bungee jumping have come up with a possibly equally zany stunt when they will attempt to cross the English Channel in a boat made entirely out of plastic bottles.

In what forecasters predict will be an unsettled windy week, New Zealanders Marcel Syron, 31 and Cameron Holm, 28, will brave the elements hoping to cross the world's busiest shipping channel in their "boatle" made of 500 discarded bottles.

The pair, who live in London, have spent months making the craft but have only practised for their crossing on London canals.
