Marcus the sheep - Is head a teacher or farmer?

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Re:-Anger over Shepway primary school slaughtering sheep

Is head a teacher or a farmer?

Why on earth is this woman allowing young children to decide on life and death?

Whether sheep or other, it is most important in today's violent society to teach children to preserve life.

We must also remember that the killers of James Bulger started killing animals before they killed James.

This head teacher is wrong.

Marcus the Sheep - Saddened by school's decision
by W. G. Tyson
on Sep 13, 2009

I am saddened by the school's decision to have one of their pets slaughtered but it reflects the ambivalent attitude that this nation of so called animal lovers has towards the creatures that it purports to protect.

There is no need for a single animal to be killed for human consumption. There is an easy alternative that involves no distress to any living being, namely vegetarianism - or, if possible, veganism. If the pupils who voted for the death of the sheep could be made aware of this healthy lifestyle, they might be persuaded to change their minds. As a more powerful piece of persuasion, the recently released video on the conditions in slaughterhouses in Great Britain produced by Animal Aid in Tonbridge should sway the feelings of anyone who favours a meat diet towards an abhorence of the whole concept of killing for food.

I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is and make a contribution to the purchase of the sheep so that it can live with other rescued sheep.

sincerely,

George Tyson.

Terrible example to set vunerable young minds
by Rose Browne
on Sep 14, 2009

The head teacher of Shepway Primary school should think very carefully about the message being sent to the children in her care.

Children brought up in the farming community will be used to eating the animals that they have seen roaming their fields. This is a way life that they understand.

For many children this will not be the case.

Marcus is a pet, he has a name.

Good parents will have taught their children to love and look after their pets. This is the building bricks of basic kindness which continues to influence childrens' interaction and thought for others through out life.

What is this head trying to do? Treating a pet in this way is a terrible example to set vunerable young minds. Particularly killing for money.

Is it a surprise some children are becoming greedy, self centered and thoughtless.
