A driver spotted with a parrot on her shoulder has been arrested in Dover.

The bird and owner, who has not been named, were about to board a ferry at the Eastern Docks when they were pulled over by police.

The parrot, which allegedly attacked a policeman after its owner was arrested for driving with the bird on her shoulder, had reportedly starred in the film Pirates Of The Caribbean.

The bird, a blue and gold macaw, left PC Martin Dadd covered in bite marks and scratches.

Chief Superintendent Steve Masters is reported in the Express explaining that the woman did not possess a cage for the bird so PC Dadd had to drive her car while it was loose in the vehicle. The macaw then perched itself on the steering wheel, pecking at his fingers throughout the journey.

The driver is due to appear before Dover magistrates charged with 14 offences, including driving while disqualified.
