Two power boats are thought to have been involved during a race in Dover Harbour today (8 August).

South East Coast Ambulance Service said the man, who was in his 40s, had been due to be airlifted to hospital but died at the scene.

The incident which occurred some distance from the shore was watched by several hundred people.

Spectators were moved away from the shore as the boat was dragged to the beach where Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the ambulance service worked together to remove the person from the boat, under the command of the air ambulance doctor.

Dover Harbour Board issued a statement which confirmed the fatal collision happened during an organised race at Dover Regatta.

It said: "An investigation into the incident has commenced, but no further details can be given at this time."
