Police officers and PCSOs from Folkestone are facing a tough challenge today (6 August) - playing football against teams of young people in Hawkinge.

Youngsters aged 11 to 14 from local villages in Shepway will be competing against each other and the police team, for the Community Challenge Cup organised by PC Trevor Moody and KCC Wardens.

PC Moody launched the annual cup tournament in Hawkinge in 2006 in response to complaints from local youngsters they had nowhere to play football.

It will be taking place at Hawkinge Community Centre from 11.00 am.

The cup, which is provided by Kent Police, is expected to be presented to the winning team at around 3.00 pm.

PC Trevor Moody said: "This has now become a successful annual event thanks to all the work of the KCC Wardens and the young people coming together to train."

"It is also good for the young people to have something they can work towards and develop good sportsmanship by playing against neighbouring villages."
