He was one of several of the county's top tourism officials who were presented with the award by Visit Kent chairman Amanda Cottrell at an event attended by more than eighty representatives of the Kent tourism industry.

Mrs Cottrell said that the award, made for the first time, recognised the achievement of individual people whose hard work showcased all that is good about Kent and aimed to ensure that visitors had a good time.

Mr Kirkham joined DFH&RM in November 2007 after a long travel industry career which included senior appointments in the tour operating, hotel, cross-Channel ferry and destination marketing sectors.

As well as promoting Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh in UK and Continental markets, he sits on Visit Kent committees concerned with marketing and IT communications and is involved with projects to promote two-way tourism between Folkestone and resorts across the Channel.
